Welcome to My Magical World!
Hi there! I'm Ari Rose, and yes, I'm a female magician—how's that for an intro? 😊 I'm a close-up and strolling magician based in the enchanting city of Orlando, Florida, the magical capital of the world (thanks to a certain famous theme park). Unlike many magicians who start young, my journey into magic began a bit later, at the age of 22. Growing up, I was always artistic, with a background in professional dancing and modeling. So, naturally, I made the seamless transition into magic—okay, maybe not the most typical path, but it's been an incredible journey!
My love for magic began when I started working as a magician's assistant. It didn't take long before I was drawn into the art of close-up magic, and now, that's where my heart lies. It’s such an amazing and fun Art, and it has given me so many opportunities, just like this one! I am so grateful to be an Ambassador for Sleightly Smoking, and to be able to write this blog post.
Back to Magic, I have been lucky to have had an amazing and warm reception in the magic community from most, and have had the most fun ever in this process. That being said, there are definitely some unique challenges as a female in this industry. One, at least for me, is pockets! Most of my jackets have custom pockets put in, as most magicians jackets do, but I always have to add more, because of the lack of automatic pockets already installed upon purchase! And don’t get me started on pants pockets….
But I digress, there are definitely bigger challenges than our clothing problems. For me in particular, I've had an interesting challenge with hand size. My hands are insanely small, and so am I, which has created unique challenges for me. But, despite these challenges, there are advantages as well. There are routines that are inherently feminine, and really any routines done by a female, in my opinion, have a certain grace and flair to them naturally, (not that our male counterparts don’t have it, it is just a little different). Magic, in my opinion, by nature is also naturally alluring. Between the secrets, the smoke and mirrors, the impossibility, and the uniqueness, it compliments the allure of a woman. And the built in misdirection of a bat of the eyelashes and a smile is a very helpful tool as well.
Anyhow, I think it’s amazing and beautiful to see many more females beginning to trickle into the art form, and encourage everyone, regardless of gender, to at least give magic a shot. I’ll be honest, it’s hard as heck, and requires a drive and dedication like no other, but when you finally get that one move, that one routine, that one method, it’s all worth it.
Magic has not only allowed me to express my creativity but has also taught me resilience and patience. Each trick mastered is a testament to hours of practice, each performance a step forward in my journey. To anyone out there considering magic, remember: the path may be challenging, but the rewards are beyond enchanting. So pick up that deck of cards, practice that sleight of hand, and step into the captivating world of magic. Trust me, it's a journey like no other.
Stay magical,
Ari Rose
